Many B+ Heroes at the Diamond State Classic

Again this year, the B+ Foundation was one of the beneficiaries of The Diamond State Classic girls high school basketball tournament held annually in Wilmington, Delaware.  This year the B+ Foundation paired 8 of the top teams from across the country with 8 local "heroes" currently battling cancer and other life-threatening illnesses.  Joe gave an inspirational talk during opening ceremonies and introduced each "hero" as the crowd went wild.  The teams brought gifts for their heroes including jerseys and basketballs.  It was an emotional meeting for everyone.  View pictures and quotes from the heroes' families.

Tour of Nemours Center for Childhood Cancer Research

The B+ Foundation arranged for Lt. Gov. John Carney (left, foreground) to tour the 1-year old Nemours Center for Childhood Cancer Research at AI DuPont Hospital, Wilmington, DE.  They're doing research into smarter chemotherapy that really excites us.  You can read more about their efforts at the NCCCR website.

2 NEW SALESIANUM SCHOLARSHIPS AWARDED

The B+ Foundation is proudly sponsoring 5 students at Salesianum School (Andrew's high school) — 2 Juniors and 1 Sophomore, who knew Andrew. We recently selected 2 incoming Freshmen to receive the Andrew McDonough B+ Scholarship. Joe and Chris were at Alex's graduation to formally present his scholarship.

Andrew McDonough B+ Award Given at St. Mary Magdalen

The St. Mary Magdalen Athletic Assoc. presented the inaugural B+ Award to the 8th Grade student who best exemplifies the B+ spirit of sportsmanship, having fun, and using your talents. Coaches nominated candidates and this year's award went to Jack Mangan. Congratulations, Jack!  The sign behind Joe and Jack will be hung on the SMM gym wall to remind everyone to B+ -- especially in the heat of a game.  Thank you so much, SMM Athletic Assoc.!

Joe Speaks at Seaford H.S. Graduation

Thanks to Rob Urell, Student President of Seaford (DE) High School for inviting Joe to be a keynote speaker at their graduation ceremonies. Joe gave a passionate speech about the lessons Andrew has taught all of us and shared his wisdom with these bright, young graduates. You can watch a video of Joe's speech here.

ANDREW McDONOUGH PLAYERS CUP GIVEN to CHAMPIONS of FCDELCO TOURN.

Andrew proudly played for FCDelco Soccer Club in Pennsylvania.  So it was a great honor when they named their Under-14 Boys Players Cup trophy after Andrew.  As we did last year, we proudly presented the Andrew McDonough Players Cup to the winner of the prestigious FCDelco Tournament this summer.

TREE TO HONOR ANDREW AT ST. MARY MAGDALEN

Tree

Andrew spent 7 years at St. Mary Magdalen School and was proud to represent his school in soccer, basketball, baseball and track. So we are pleased to have planted a Bonfire Sugar Maple tree next to the SMM gym to provide beauty, shade and a reminder to all future students to try their best and have fun!

Andrew helped deliver a gorgeous day September 15th, setting the stage for the culmination of months of work by family and friends.  The 2nd Annual B+ Foundation Golf Outing was held at beautiful Brandywine Country Club in Wilmington, DE.  Over 100 golfers joined us for lunch and the perfect day to spend outside on a manicured golf course.

7th grader, Jake Goorland, sold Mulligans and managed the Putting Contest, raising over $1,000 for the Foundation!  We're so grateful to our sponsors, both national and local, who helped make the day a casually classy affair.  Some of our local sponsors, who continue to support the B+ Foundation include:  Horizon Services, Farley Printing, Goorland and Mann, Chase and NCI Insurance.

Some of Andrew's high school friends helped out after school when another 100 or so friends joined us for the dinner and auction. Through the generosity of national and local businesses, and the hard work of friends, we offered over 120 unique and interesting auction packages including VIP experiences at Notre Dame, University of Delaware and Opryland, beach houses, airline tickets, and autographed memorabilia.  It was exciting to watch the auction bidders as the clock ticked down to the closing seconds.

But no one walked away empty-handed, as  they all had full hearts knowing that their contributions helped support kids and families in crisis.  In fact, together we netted over $50,000!   That will go a long, long way to help families across the country worry less about bills, and allow them to concentrate more on their very sick kids, like Zack.   Zack's mother, Andrea Adamsky, spoke movingly about Zack's rare illness and the support they're getting from community, A.I.Dupont Hospital, and the B+ Foundation.

So, on behalf of all these families, and our own, thank you so much to our sponsors and our supporters. For those who missed this year's fun-filled event, please plan to join us next year!
