Kids Helping Kids Fight Cancer
The B+ Foundation gets help in many creative ways. Not only do these events raise money to help us further our mission, but they dramatically increase awareness of the B+ Movement. Check out a few of the more recent ways that kids (and adults) are helping kids fight cancer.
Teens
- Students from 5 area choirs gathered for the 3rd Annual Festival of American Spirituals with donations going to B+.
- Teens Against Poverty (TAP) from PA organized a fundraiser between 4 Delaware HS basketball rivals called "Rivals Rally to Bounce Pediatric Cancer." They raised a couple thousand dollars for B+!
- Unionville HS held a blood drive and recruited Joe to do a video.
- Shireen U. designed and created herown B+ T-Shirts to honor Andrew and support B+. NBC News covered the story and had Shireen in their studio talking about Andrew and her shirts. You can watch the video here.
- Steve B. continues to spread B+ throughout Univ. of Chicago by selling B+ Gear and hosting a 3v3 soccer tournament.
- Teens Against Poverty (TAP) sold B+ Gear and snacks at an Ursuline v. Padua HS basketball game and raised a lot of money and awareness for B+. Seeing all the pink B+ shirts in the stands was breathtaking.
- Andrew's friend, Patrick, participated in "No Shave November" and raised money with his dorm floor at UD.
- Anna F. celebrated her 14th birthday and collected for B+ instead of gifts. Love all the B+ shirts!
- Alexa is writing her Congressmen to raise awareness of and request more funding for childhood cancer research.
- Amanda in NY set up a lemonade stand for B+ and is the first to sell KIND JOE coffee in NY for us!
- Julia, Lauren and their fellow DROC members (Delaware Revolution of Change) held an outdoor movie night to benefit B+. About 100 kids and parents gathered on the lawn to watch 2 fun movies and eat donated popcorn and cotton candy!
- Matt O. and his Unionville HS, PA, classmates organized a fundraiser at Rita's Water Ice, complete with B+ Gear sales and music from Windowview. They even convinced Rita's to make a donation!
- The Greek community at the University of Delaware held their 3rd Annual UDance marathon and shared their proceeds with The B+ Foundation. B+ Heroes became fraternity brothers and sorority sisters, and UD students registered to be bone marrow donors. It was a long, loud, fun day. - Mt. Pleasant HS Student Council held a "Hats for Andrew" day, which allowed students to wear hats in school and raise money for B+.
- Sydney Lysinger, one of our B+ Heroes, organized St. Marks HS to sell special wristbands and raise money for The B+ Foundation.
- Thanks to George P. and The Hammonton Brass, an ensemble of classical musicians that performs around New Jersey, for holding a benefit concert for The B+ Foundation. You can listen to them here.
- Rachael B. organized a Penny War at Elkton (MD) High School to benefit The B+ Foundation. Thanks for spreading the B+ Spirit to Maryland, Rachael.
- Summer O. held her Sweet 16 in honor of Andrew and The B+ Foundation!
- Paul B., an old classmate of Ali's, helped organize and play in a concert that benefitted B+!
- Maddy B.'s Surprise Sweet 16 benefitted The B+ Foundation in a big way. Guests were encouraged to bring "gifts" of $16 for B+, wear their B+ Gear, and dance under B+ balloons!
- Shayna T. and her friends baked treats and held a bake sale to raise money to help B+ families in need.
- Julianne D., Miss Mid-Atlantic Outstanding Teen 2009, has chosen "Be Positive" as her platform. She recently organized a Teen Variety Show and Silent Auction that we were privileged to attend and speak at. Proceeds benefitted The B+ Foundation and far exceeded Julianne's goal.
- Christina and Meghan desGroseilliers hosted a Teen Dance Feb. 6th in Hockessin, DE, to benefit B+. Thanks to all the area high schoolers who joined them for dancing and dinner. NBC Newsinterviewed the girls and Joe!
- Kyle C. organized a 3v3 soccer tournament at his high school to spread the B+ message to western Pennsylvania.
- Ricky W. celebrated his 13th birthday with donations to B+ and a soccer cake.
- Thanks to the students at Ursuline Academy (Ali's HS) for honoring B+ Hero Savannah Pauley with a fundraiser for B+.
- Morgan C. held a silent auction for The B+ Foundation as part of her senior project for West Chester Henderson HS in PA.
- The Kelly's Sweet 16 Party - Three young ladies (one set of twins and their cousin) celebrated their joint Sweet 16 Party recently and the girls asked for donations to the B+ Foundation in lieu of gifts. Approximately $3,000 was raised!
